3321 M&W , Ch.2 & Authors New Book

Ch.2 Culturally Responsive Classrooms

The author states , “One major goals of my work and my life (aside from communicating the things I believe in) is to help foster understanding and respect for each other…”. This comment hits right home with this chapter. Teachers and Administrators have to change the way they teach and the way they perceive today’s students. A 12 yr old today is learning more than what I was learning at age 12. Students also have more resources and technology is 10 times better.
Getting to know students is very important. Teachers can learn so much from learning their cultural. A genuine study of culture goes beyond what different people wear and eat. It’s not only the way of life. It is the who, what, where and why of a person. We are not all comfortable around people from another race. You also have to get rid of your own biases. Every student deserves a fair shot and to have the equal opportunity no matter wha color or where their from.

I found a new book from my author Bill Martin Jr. This is the first book he wrote in 1945. The book is about a fire fly on a journey to find out what he is. The one-of-a-kind squeegy bug knows he isn't an ant, cricket, or flea. THAT’S WHAT I GOT FROM THE REVIEWS. I HAVENT READ THIS BOOK YET AND PLAN ON GETTING IT SOON. The website had cool games, activities and fun facts about the animals mentioned in the book.

3321 M&W Ch.1 & AP

CORRECTION!!!

Reading is the most not loved subject in elementary.

Is what I meant to say in the third sentence.

3321 M&W Ch.1 & AP

Ch. 1 was very informative. The part that I liked best was the Encouraging Experimentation. Reading is the most love subjest in elementary. You have to make the subject fun and exciting. I agree with what the book is saying on this with, “…all learners need to try out ideas, make mistakes, and take risks in order to grow with their reading”. Now if every teacher believed in this theory you would see more kids at a young age be great readers. You have to practice winning. You can’t win without putting in the work. That’s what I get out of this section. I also love what Judy Smith did with her Third grade class. You have to make your class appealing to your students, not to your taste. The classroom was made by the students for the students.

In my Author profile I have chosen Bill Martin Jr. I love reading his books. I just have two of them. HAHA. And out of the ZILLION books my wife likes to buy my daughter and the numerous book clubs my daughter is in, She never received the two books I have from Bill Martin Jr. Leave it to our day care sending home the book order catalog. So that’s how we bought Chicka, Chicka, Boom, Boom and Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do you See? Both books are very different and have very unique ways of catching the readers and the listener’s attention. I personally love Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do you See? Because, I have seen the book be very effective for my 20 month old daughter. She loves the pictures and the objects that are linked with the colors. She knows every animal in the book. No matter where we go she is likely to see an animal from the book. I had no idea Michelle Obama read this book to a bunch of third graders from Ferebee Hope Elementary in Southeast Washington, DC. Bill Martin is very popular so it was easy finding information on him. It’s going to be fun researching him and seeing what other great books he wrote.
