3321 M&W Group Presentation
Our group was so awesome. The book was a great selection. I’m not going to lie at first I wasn’t feeling it because I hadn’t read it. Once I read it and we talked about the classroom lesson and all the ideas the group had was huge seller. We had a great plan going in to the presentation and we stuck to that plan even though the wireless connection wasn’t working. This group was by far the most dedicated and hardworking group I have ever been a part of. The presentation couldn’t have been better. The lesson plan, book walk, power point and THE INETEGRITY SONG were great. GOOD JOB GROUP!!!!!!
3321 M&W Persuasive
In persuasive writing, a writer tries to convince you to believe as the writer does ( unknown). We see persuasive writing every day. I would give my elementary classroom examples they see everyday and don't know it. We see persuasive writing on TV commercials:
"Do you want people to look your way when you drive by?
Then buy the NEW Lexus, built for people who really enjoy driving a luxury car!"
Something like this is so easy and the kiddos can relate to it because all kids see T.V.

EDRG M&W AP- A Long Way Gone

This true story involves the life of Ishmael Beah who lives a fairly happy life in Sierra Leone until civil war breaks out. Then, like other civilians, he is forced to run for his life, becoming separated from his family and later losing them to murder by the rebels. He later finds a way to be rehabilitated and regain his childhood. He once again learns how to love.
He is a few lines cut from the book...
My new friends have begun to suspect I haven't told them the full story of my life.
"Why did you leave Sierra Leone?""Because there is a war."
"You mean, you saw people running around with guns and shooting each other?"
"Yes, all the time."
"Cool."
I smile a little.
"You should tell us about it sometime."
"Yes, sometime."

If that doesnt get your attention... Throughout the book the boy explains real war in full detail when he was 13. He was being trained to kill others.

3321 M&W Fiction

The Diary of a Wimpy Kid books are definitely my favorite right now. The author Jeff Kinney had no idea his book would be a big hit. The book started out available to read online only. The web site got so many hits that they needed to print books because of the huge demand. Now there are 4 series out. I am not a big reader but these books caught my interest. Now I am reading more for myself instead of always reading to my daughter for my daughter. Right now I’m reading The Christmas Sweater by Glen Beck, Kevin Balfe. The book is based on a true story fiction. I am a fan of Glen Beck and heard he wrote a book, so I bought it. The book is about a 12 year old boy who experiences rough times growing up and how he responds or better, reacts. It is a book about growing up, about believing in yourself, about having faith, and about change. Eddie is the 12 year old boy, is a character that everyone can relate to. The book brought back memories of people, places, things and events in my own life as a youngster that I had completely forgotten about.

EDRG 3321 M & W - Maya Angelou
My fondest memory of Maya Angelou is when I was in fifth grade and watching President Clinton's 1993 inauguration she read a poem for Bill Clinton and America. Her poem "On the Pulse of the Morning" was broadcast live around the world.
During this interview I really loved how Maya Angelou spoke of her love of poetry to her love of kids and of herself. She is very smart and a very powerful women. She shared her love for poetry bu telling us who inspired her and what drove her to be successful.
As future educators we all have to inspire, empower. Our education system has taken love out of the classrooms, that doesnt mean they have taken the love out of the teachers. Although some teachers today act like it.
I am human, nothing human can be alien to me is so powerful in so many ways. In that one sentence she sums up her whole interview. She is so loving and a true humanitarian. WOW
